Insomnia has high prevalence rates and is associated with significant personal and socioeconomic burden, yet it remains largely untreated. It seems that various factors such as lack of awareness of the seriousness of insomnia, the advantages of treatment, the risks associated with use of various treatments and the availability of behavioral, herbal, and hormonal treatments also contribute to this issue . Many of the treatments produce long-lasting and reliable changes among people with chronic insomnia and have minimal side effects. Pharmacologic therapies have proven effective with improving wake time after sleep onset and sleep maintenance and reducing the number of nighttime awakenings, but do not help improve deep sleep, with the exception of a small number of medications. They also have side effects. The whole psychiatry approach to insomnia involves the assessment of causes of insomnia (e.g psychological factors, sleep disturbances such as apnea and restless legs, hormonal problems such as glucoregulation, thyroid, melatonin, and HPA axis function, etc).
