Educational Programming for Health Care Practitioner Organizations & Groups

American Health Educators, Inc., the professional education division of The Hedaya Clinic and National and New York Centers for Whole Psychiatry, offers educational programming for large groups and organizations of mental health care practitioners, including social workers, psychologists, counselors, nurse practitioners, and pastoral counselors. Dr. Hedaya has taught this series of CEU-granting courses in a seminar environment since 1991 to health care practitioners. He is now offering the same programming virtually by conference call and webinar.

Robert J. Hedaya, M.D., D.F.A.P.A. has been named Georgetown University Hospital Outstanding Teacher of the Year (1993, 1997, & 1999). He is Professor of Psychiatry, Georgetown University Hospital Department of Psychiatry, and Faculty Member of the Institute for Functional Medicine.

The program provides mental health practitioners with essential clinically relevant and scientific information on the effects of body systems on mental and emotional states. A lack of understanding of the interconnectedness of the mind and the body often results in incorrect diagnoses, unnecessary treatments, and poor treatment outcomes. Dr. Hedaya developed the content of this program as a result of working collaboratively for over 25 years with health care practitioners and listening to their challenges in treating clients. The longevity of the program speaks to its reception by the mental health community.

The program to is in four 1.5-hour segments to maximize learning and integration of the material into one’s practice. It is a balance of theory and the application of theory to actual case material.

The program covers what practitioners need to know about hormones, nutrition, digestion, immunity, genetics, detoxification and mental health.

After completion of the program, attendees will be able to identify hormonal, nutritional, gastrointestinal dysfunction, immune system issues, and help clients to rely less on medication, yet get better outcomes.

This program includes:

  • Alternative, nutritional, hormonal, and immune/infectious aspects of mental health
  • Case discussions and presentations
  • An orderly and organized review of the basics of biological psychiatry

Course Objectives:

  • Identify the basis of the mind-body unity and the implications for psychotherapists
  • Identify signs and symptoms suggestive of hormonal dysfunction, and course of action
  • Identify signs and symptoms suggestive of immune dysfunction and course of action
  • Identify signs and symptoms suggestive of nutritional and gastrointestinal dysfunction and courses of action
